Licensing and Business Development

Molecular Probes is recognized as the leading developer of fluorescence-based reagents and assay techniques, worldwide. We have extensive patent coverage for many of our novel technologies, and several of these patents are now available for license. We are looking for partners who can expand our marketing and technical capabilities, and welcome inquiries at probesbusdev@invitrogen.com.

Technologies that are available for license include:

  • Highly sensitive nucleic acid stains for gels, cells, solutions, capillary and flow cytometric detection
  • Sensitive protein stains for gels, solutions, and capillary electrophoresis
  • Bright fluorescent labels for proteins, peptides, nucleic acids, polysaccharides and small molecules
  • Efficient fluorescence quencher dyes for coupling to many biological materials
  • Microspheres that can be customized to have the fluorescence properties of your choice
  • Highly selective fluorescent stains for organelles
  • One-step fluorescence-based assays for microbial and mammalian cell viability
  • Fluorogenic enzyme substrates for microplate or solution assays and for cell- or tissue-based detection

We have close relationships with a number of instrument companies and can work with your company to match your detection instrumentation with our proprietary technology. We can develop kits, reagents or assays for you under contract or can advise you on how to best do your own assay development using our reagents. Our ~20 years of protein conjugation experience give us the expertise to prepare superior labeled antibodies or other proteins for you under license, using our proprietary dyes. Our experience in the synthesis of fluorescent organic research chemicals is unsurpassed by any other company in the field today. The capabilities of our bioscientists and organic chemists can be put to work for you — working to make your company stronger, your product line more complete, and your assays more sensitive. Molecular Probes has received ISO 9001:2000 certification and is an experienced supplier of various reagents to manufacturers.

Extra Income for your Laboratory

Distributing your Research Products through Molecular Probes

Although >90% of Molecular Probes' products are manufactured in-house, we also distribute high purity reagents developed by academic, industrial or government laboratories in the course of their research. You supply us with materials developed in your laboratory and we will package, market and distribute them. Our Handbook of Fluorescent Probes and Research Products and our prodigious Web site (http://probes.invitrogen.com) provide unparalleled access to users of biological detection reagents in the worldwide research community. We are constantly seeking new reagents to distribute, including (but not limited to):

  • fluorescent probes of almost any kind
  • monoclonal and polyclonal antibodies
  • enzymes, enzyme substrates and inhibitors
  • peptides, growth factors and cytokines
  • nucleotides and nucleotide analogs

How to Get Started

If you can supply Molecular Probes with reagents for which there are current or foreseeable demands from other researchers, please send e-mail to Business Development (probesbusdev@invitrogen.com) giving the information listed below. We will enter into a non-disclosure agreement if requested. A minimum five-year supply commitment is required.

  • Your name, postal and E-mail addresses, telephone and fax numbers
  • A description of the material (including name and chemical structure (if applicable))
  • A description of the materials' application including published references (if available)
  • Details of any patents or patent applications pertinent to this material

Molecular Probes will respond directly with further details, contract and payment terms. We look forward to hearing from you.
